I don't think I've ever really gone into my love of movie hosts here, horror hosts in particular. It's a vanishing art, but once upon a time you could find horror hosts on almost every UHF station in the country, introducing the movie and doing skits and gags between the commercials. These people would becom local celebrities in their own right, but be virtually unknown outside of their market.
The rise of the internet and the oversyndication of local stations (along with the proliferation of cable) has changed all that. Fewer hosts are on regular TV (a LOT more on public access) but they have a wider potential audience because of YouTube and Vimeo and the like (much like cartoonists and webcomics). In the Cleveland area we had Big Chuck and Lil' John for decades, and before that Big Chuck and Hollihan and Ghoulardi. Son of Ghoul is still on the air in the Akron area.
The idea for this particular hostess came from my friend Angelique. She's a regular at Cinema Wasteland and was talking about it one night. I thought it was too good an idea not to steal. I still have hopes that she'll actually create this show and throw it up on the internet!
