No, I really do get this... After all, these fictional soldiers, such as Captain America, are for the most part, with a few exceptions, meant as a tribute to our real soldiers. I think it is actually a novel way to pay homage and respect to those gone before us without disrespecting the actual lives lost by recognizing ourselves with the ideals that those real soldiers represent. A lot of those soldiers did believe that wearing a flag design was disrespectful, so in wearing a design that is reminiscent of that is an honorable way to show our respect...
the alternative is wearing a patch of the flag, like those found on uniforms, but that almost seems just as disrespectful when you didn't earn that patch the way they did.
My son serving at Fort Bragg right now in the 82nd airborne I believe would agree ;-)
