I'm not interested in turning this into a discussion about censorship. Every parent should know what their kids are watching and reading. My wife was shocked to learn I knew all names of all the ponies in My Little Pony. Of course I do. I've watched it with the girls and need to be able to discuss it with them. Just like I've seen bits of Barbie MerMista and SpongeBob.
Some people have never grown past the curious stereotype that comics and animation are only for children (My wife is one of them). Perhaps I'm biased, but then again, I've NEVER made comics aimed solely at kids.
I think the Walking Dead is actually quite excellent, and we discussed in the past that I was slow coming to this conclusion. But it has genuine drama I nthe comics and is frequently heartbreaking. However, I would NEVER hand a copy to my 8 year old (who LOVES zombies). Indeed, during Free Comic Book Day, I actually had to steer her away from "Zombie Tramp" (a funny and creepy book in it's own right, but also not age appropriate).
By the way, all of this talk of zombies reminds me, Saturday night (going into Sunday morning) I'll be at the Apollo theatre in Oberlin for the live Spookshow event! They're screening Night of the Living Dead on the big screen, and having live entertainment. I'll be there around 11:30 wandering around as a zombie. Come out and join us, and if you see me, tap me on the shoulder and say hi!
